The Zugspitze
A visit of the highest mountain of Germany, The Zugspitze, is probably on everybody's "have to do"-list, when staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The train starts form the railway station in GAP. Even the train ride with the rack railway, one of the very rare rack railways in Germany, is an experience. From the Zugspitzplatt, just beneath the summit, you will change into a cableway, which will transport you directly to the very top of the mountain to 2962m (9717 feet). The cableway starts from the railway station Eibsee and goes all the way to the top. The gorge of Partnach
In only 20 minutes walking distance from the ATLAS Grand Hotel you can reach the Olympic skiing stadium with the new build ski-jump. From there you can reach the gorge within a 30 minutes walk or you can take a comfortable ride with the horse carriage. The Partnachklamm will impress you with it's beautiful and steep cliffs. A narrow gulch forces the rivulet Partnach into a booming river. The waterfalls of the gorge are up to 80m high and solidify in the Winter time, which gives the Partnachklamm a fairy tale look.
